Russian woman presents cops with attack mystery

CHAIYOT PUPATTANAPONG

An injured Russian woman flagged down a motorist and asked for help after she was attacked in Bang Lamung district, near Pattaya, on Wednesday night, police said yesterday.

Elena Zyalkova, 38, was found in a confused and distressed state walking on the road heading towards Mab Prachan reservoir in tambon Nong Prue around 9.30pm, police said.

Police and rescue workers called to the scene said Ms Zyalkova, who was wearing a jogging suit, had head injuries, bruises to her neck and abrasions all over her body.

When asked about the injuries she said she could not remember what happened.

Police later found a blood trail leading 10 metres into woodland beside the road, along with a pair of running shoes and a mobile phone, both hers.

Motorist Kosol Chomchuen, 36, told police he was going home when he came across the woman walking on the road calling for help. She was bleeding, so he immediately called police.

The injured woman was taken to Bang Lamung Hospital. Local and tourist police were waiting to interview her to find out what happened.
