Notes: Complied by the Singapore-based non-profit organisation Chandler Institute of Governance, the Good Government Index 2021 evaluates the effectiveness of governments in 104 countries. The index reflects a belief that good national governance and national prosperity are deeply connected.
The findings are based on 34 indicators categorised into seven main pillars: leadership and foresight, robust laws and policies, strong institutions, financial stewardship, attractive marketplace, global influence and reputation, and helping people rise.
The first six pillars relate to government capabilities while the final pillar focuses on key outcomes of good governance that help create opportunity and prosperity, said the report.
Finland tops the index with an overall score of 0.85, followed by Switzerland, Singapore, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
Thailand’s highest score is 0.61 in the attractive market pillar. Its lowest score is 0.44 in leadership and foresight.
