‘Distressed’ Thai worker falls to his death in Taiwan

A 32-year-old Thai worker died after falling from a building in Taiwan on Thursday, according to the Labour Ministry.

Nimit Khanajod, a native of Chaiyaphum, fell from the 11th floor of a Taipei building where the Thai labour office is located.

He was employed by Her Cherng Sanitary Co Ltd, a Taiwanese manufacturer and exporter of bathroom components, and recruited for the work by Thai firm, Bansing Manpower Co Ltd and the Taiwanese firm, Soon Li Development Inc.

According to labour officials, Nimit turned up at 11.15am at the labour office in the building to ask for help. He claimed that someone was after him and he was in danger and wanted to return home.

He was served food and beverages to help calm his nerves, but a few hours later he fell from the building and died, according to the labour officials.

Labour Minister Suchart Chomklin expressed condolences to his family and asked labour officials to see to it that the family received full assistance.

Nimit’s family will receive an initial compensation of 143,800 baht for funeral services. As a member of a fund to help overseas job seekers, the Department of Employment will provide further assistance to his family.

Mr Suchart has instructed labour officials overseas to keep in touch with Thai workers and provide them with assistance and support.
